“Let there be no strangers
~St. Francis of Assisi
It is a very important and very enjoyable ministry to
Welcome Newcomers to the
St. Patrick’s parish family.
It is always difficult to come to a new place and join a new group of people.
Sometimes the littlest kindnesses make such a huge impact.
To welcome the stranger into our midst is to welcome Christ. Pray about it and think about if you would like to be a part of this rewarding ministry.
Time commitment is minimal. There is a big variety of ways you could help:
Give tours of the parish and church to newcomers.
Host a welcome newcomers table in our new foyer.
Greet parishioners before and/or after mass.
Introduce yourself to people around you in church to get to know them.
Help to draft welcome flyers for people new to the area.
Post flyers in local specialty stores (selling African, Vietnamese or Filipino foods, for example).
Draft welcome notices for the bulletin in other languages.
Provide occasional rides for newcomers who don’t have transportation yet or who haven’t learned the bus system.
Teach someone the bus schedule to get to church.
Be a conversation partner to someone who wants to learn English.
Join the website outreach team to welcome newcomers through media.
Share your ideas for how to make St. Pat’s as welcoming as we can be!
